Florence, the home to Renaissance art and architecture. If you are an Art lover, you should definitely visit Florence while being in Italy.

For me, to be honest, it was not in my list of place to visit. So you would say why did I go then? Well, it was on my way to Rome and it was worth stopping half way to have a look at this beautiful city.

As the ritual, I went to stroll in the city to get to know the surrounding, To arrive in the heart of Florence where the Duomo is, no need to have a GPS, just follow the crowd. Everyone is going towards the Cattedrale di Santa Maria Del Fiore; Such a beauty. I love churches and how they are built, the walls and architecture. But this Cathedral has another kind of beauty - it stands out from all other cathedral I have seen.Instantly the pastel color makes the full difference with the geometric on the walls. The design is that of Arnolfo di Cambio - it begun construction in 1296 and was completed by 1436 - 140 years to built but the wait was really worth it!

After seeing the square of the cathedral, I allowed the street to guide me. Through the walk, so many Gelato shops but I also saw many landmark of Florence. Piazza della Repubblica with cafes and shops all around with some animations around which makes the place very lively. Next was the Mercato del Porcellino, which was originally a covered luxury-goods market, with statues & a famed fountain. That famed fountain is called II Porcellino which is the translation to piglet and it is actually the local Florentine nickname. On the spot, I googled it, why so many people? So it says to put a coin in the pig mouth and rub the nose, it brings luck - which I did and let us see what happens. 😂

To finish the night, I went to Ponte Vecchio, this famous bridge in Florence which is actually an arched river bridge with Roman origins which has jewelry and souvenirs shops. The bridge does have this romantic vibe and you can feel that it has so much history in the bridge.

For the second day, it was the visit of museums, churches and there was also a firework at night. The day went really quick and this is when I realised I saw most important tings in Florence. And for the last day, it was finally time to go to Pisa. I spent only one day there because the main aim was too see the Pisa tower. Only one hour of train journey from Florence makes it very easy to go do. The number of people there was impressive. As good as the picture with the Pisa tower looks, it was very much annoying waiting for your turn to have a picture there. But well, it is worth a day to visit.

I am very grateful that even though this region of Italy was not on my place to be, I was able to experience some days there. For Art lovers, definitely a place to be.
